Here are the toxic ingredients we recommend avoiding:
1,4 dioxane - EPA says this causes cancer over long exposure
Ethoxylated Alcohols - commonplace in liquid laundry detergent, contains trace amounts of 1,4 dioxane
Optical Brighteners - can cause hormone imbalances & are hormone disruptors.
SLS/SLES - irritate eyes, skin, & lungs, derived from crude oil
Methylisothiazolinoneoil & Formaldehyde - Harsh preservative, scary name.
Synthetic Dyes - Let’s avoid this just because we can.

Ingredient Integrity: Molly’s Suds has ingredient integrity! No harsh chemicals and no garbage ingredients. Vegan and Cruelty Free. The most popular scent is Peppermint which smells great.
Great Reviews: Molly’s Suds also has great reviews & lots of happy customers.
Say No to Plastic Jugs: I also like that Molly’s Suds comes in a plastic pouch vs a plastic jug.
Powder Laundry Detergent: This is powder laundry detergent and I preferred the Clean People Laundry Sheet.
Dirty Labs has been featured on lots of popular talk shows and magazines for good reason. It is so much better than a lot of those greenwashed brands in stores. I love that I can buy it in most stores so if I am running low on my top 2, I pop out and get something from Dirty Labs right away that I know will have a good EWG rating.
Charlie’s Soap came in 4th. This brand has been around for a long time and is available at lots of stores. Charlie’s has good ingredient integrity.
In my use, it didn’t clean as well as I would have liked. They have no natural scented option. The bag is very heavy. And it’s more expensive than the other powder that made the list #2 Molly’s Suds. For that reason it earns our #4 spot.
Puracy comes in 5th. We like that the product is 99% natural. No optical brighteners, no SLS/SLES, no dyes, no Petrochemicals. We also like that Puracy ships the product in refill pouches (though these are plastic). The dealbreaker on Puracy is the alcohol ethoxylate — these will have a trace of 1,4 dioxane. And I recommend avoiding 1,4 dioxane.
